Jarkko Karvonen has been elected CEO of Kiinteistö Oy Kummun Kotie and will start his position on June 1, 2026. Karvonen already serves as the City of Outokumpu's Urban Structure Director. The Outokumpu City Council decided to separate the duties of the CEO of the Outokumpu Region Industrial Village and Kummun Kotie — the change will respond to the increased needs for business development and clarify the management of the companies owned by the city.
In Outokumpu, the development of business operations, the expansion needs of companies and the possible start of mining operations require more investment in business activities than before. When the role of the CEO of Teollisuuskylä will focus on developing vitality and business activities in the future, Kummun Kotie will have its own CEO who will focus on this.
– The board believes that Jarkko Karvonen is exactly the right person for the job and it is great that the necessary expertise was found within the city’s own organization. Karvonen has diverse experience, including from the city’s subsidiaries, the construction industry and the field of work of a property manager. He knows the operations and situation of Kummun Kotie well and has a realistic view of the current situation, even though the work is demanding. In addition, more synergy benefits can be utilized, as Karvonen already works as the city’s urban structure director for Outokumpu. For example, there is already cooperation with the city in property maintenance and tenders, says Sirkka-Liisa Kolehmainen, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Kummun Homes.
– There is a lot of natural overlap between the roles of Director of Urban Development and CEO of Kummun Kotie. I know both entities well and see coordinating the tasks as an opportunity to streamline operations and strengthen the overall vision, Jarkko Karvonen says.
"The goal is to ensure that the company meets the needs of our residents also in the future," he says.
Mayor Päivi Lintumäki is satisfied with the solution reached.
– Now we have a good opportunity to develop the operations of both the Outokumpu region industrial village and Kummun Koti.
